Radhavallabh Tripathii
With 38 years of his continuous service as regular teacher in Universities at Udaipur and Sagar, Prof. Radhavallabh Tripathi is one of the senior-most professors of Sanskrit in the country. He is also the senior-most professor in Dr. H.S. Gour Univesity (Formerly University of Sagar).
Widely acclaimed for his original contributions to the study of Natyashastra and Sahityashastra, Prof. Tripathi has published 109 books, 183 research papers and critical essays as well as translations of more than 30 Sanskrit plays and some classics from Sanskrit into Hindi.
He has served as Dean Faculty of Arts in Dr. Harisingh Gour University for two terms; and being the senior most professor of the University acted as the Vice-Chancellor for about six months, was twice appointed as Vice-Chancellor by Hon. Governor of M.P. for temporary periods.
He has received more than 20 national and international awards and honors for his literary contributions, including Sahitya Akademi Award for Sanskrit Poetry and Shankar Puraskar of K.K. Birla Trust for his Natyashastravishvakosha- (in four volumes). Prof. Tripathi has been the Head of the Department of Sanskrit at Dr. H.S. Gour University (Saugar University) from July 1980 up to date (except the period of three years during 2002 to 2005 when he was deputed as Visiting Professor at Silpakorn University, Bangkok by ICCR, new Delhi.)
During his dynamic leadership, the department of Sanskrit at Dr. H.S. Gour University was recognized for DRS (Departmental Research Support) under the scheme of SAP (Special Assistance Programme) by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi from 1994. It has been upgraded as DSA (Department of Special Assistance) from 2007. Prof. Tripathi has been running the SAP as Chief Coordinator from 1994 up to date. He established a Manuscript Library as well as an E-Library in the Department and discovered a number of rare manuscripts. He also initiasted a scheme for publication of rare manuscripts,named as Prakhya. Ten Volumes of Prakhya has so far been published. Prof. Tripathi has visited Holland, Australia, Germany, Thailand, UK and other countries on various academic assignments. He has delivered more than a dozen key-note addresses and more than 30 special lectures for International/National seminars etc.
He has organized more than 25 All India Level Research Seminars and Teachers Re-orientation Programmes. With his innovative skills, he designed new teaching aids and material for instruction, and cultivated new areas of study.
He has been referred in various research journals on Indology. Research for Ph.D. has been completed as well as is being carried on his creative writings in Sanskrit in a number of Universities. Gyanayani, a quarterly Journal in Hindi, published a special number devoted to his life and writings.
At present, Prof. Radhavallabh Tripathi is holding the position of the Vice Chancellor, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Deemed University (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India), New Delhi from August 14, 2008.
